The Blood Drive
So I went to go donate blood for the first time tonight. I left the house and walked to Karate to pick up Sara. Then we walked together to her shul so I could give blood. We got to the Shul and went into the downstairs where the mada people were already set up and taking other peoples blood. I filled out the form with Sara's help. I got my blood pressure checked and it was 120/80 textbook normal. They also checked my hemoglobin, but I didnt think to look at what it was, but it was somewhere between 12 and 14 because those are the only numbers you can have and still donate blood. Finally everything was in order and I went to have my blood sucked out. There were a few empty beds, but only one that was on the right side to have blood taken from my left arm, so I went and sat down on it and the nice guy, who was annoying like the new doctor in my ward, started to talk to me and feel my arm to find my vein. He was funny and had very nice eyes. I also didnt understand a lot of what he was saying, because I was freaked out that I was going to faint and I didnt want to. Turns out that: I didnt faint! As Sara phrased it, I had rosy cheeks and I am psycotic =) wonderful! But the guy missed and stuck the needle all the way through my vein instead of just through one side, so there wasnt enough blood in the bag to be able to use it. And he was nice and didnt want my whole arm to puff up and bruise, so he didnt fill it up all the way. I thought that was nice of him. He was so sad after and didnt talk to the next lady who sat down and he took a ten minute break and was really upset of having screwed my blood up. I told him not to be so depressed, because I really just wanted to know if I would faint or not and I didnt so that was good. Plus he said I have good veins AND sara was amused that I have black blood =P
Anyway, in four months I'll go give blood again and be'ezrat Hashem if they are supposed to be able to use it, it will all work out!
Dude! Don't be so sad!
