The air conditioner is blowing on me and I am freezing my tushy off!
Now I know why Lori was so keen on switching the beds around.
Well, another year has gone by and what do I have to show for it?
-Almost a whole year of sherut leumi tucked under my belt (yes, I do have a belt! My Ima bought me one a few weeks ago J )
- A teudat bagrut J although I supposed that that is last years accomplishment
- the knowledge that I have made lots of people happy over the course of the year. I doubt I can remember all of them, but the ones I do, well, it gives me a good feeling to think about.
- Important lessons about love, patience, death, anger, forgiveness, family, strangers, and many many patients
Its my birthday again.
Finally on the same day.
19.
One more year of teenagerhood.
I better make it a good one.
I just reread my old posts and found out what I was doing last year at this time and the year before that at this time. So what did I do on my Birthday this year?
I woke up at about 6:15, a little late, so I tiptoed into the bathroom, figuring that I'd take a shower before my room mate woke up. I actually thought it was possible that I would be able to shower without her waking up, but that didnt happen. I was about to close the door to the bathroom when her alarm went off. So I tiptoed over to her bed and asked her if she was getting up, or could I use the bathroom for ten minutes. She gave me a thumbs up, reset her alarm, and didnt stay awake long enough to hear me close the bathroom door. Ten minutes later I was clean and wet and out of the bathroom and all in good time, because for once she got up when the alarm went off. I got dressed and was davening when she left. I was about to leave when the door opened and she walked back in. "I forgot that I work in Ispuz Yom today." She fell back into her bed. I shook my head and walked out. She started work at seven thirty, not at seven. Oh well, at least I got to shower?
Work was work, but it was a typical pnimit morning and I havent had one of those for two months! I got there and there were astrupim to bring down. Thats a certain type of blood test, where the tube needs to rest on ice and has to be in the lab within fifteen minutes of its being taken. I took the list of names of new patients and the blood and headed downstairs. Five minutes later I was back upstairs and smacked myself on the head and headed back down to where I had come from because I forgot about the list of names and getting stickers for them all. Whoops. That took fifteen minutes that the the red haired lady and the fact that she was in her "funny hostess" mood.
When I got back upstairs, Sarit and I finished organizing the front desk and everything else that had to be organized and then sat around for twenty minutes waiting for breakfast to come. Dr. Dovid was the toran and he's always funny. He was trying to play with the telephone and we just watched, because if he wanted help, he would ask. In middle of this amusing scene Sarit remembered that it was my birthday. I dont know HOW she remembered seeing as I told her months ago on her birthday when mine was, but she did! Dr. Dovid then got even. "Sammy! Its your birthday? How old are you? 19??? Wow, you're old! We can make fun of you!" He was being very sarcastic and very funny (basically acting like he usually does after toranut, very tired...) It made me smile though and the day brightened considerably. I like bantering with people. The fact that this happens with doctors, only proves that they are human.
The day started and went ok. Nothing spectacular. Yossi, the metnadev who finished a month ago came to visit. That was funny. We got a new metnadav and the current one taught him the ropes... I went everywhere except down to the pharmacy. I ran away an hour early. Not really though, cause it was a wednesday and an orita day, so I was allowed to go, but it felt like running away, because I finished going to orita for the year.
I met Lori at tachanah mercazit and she gave me helium filled balloons. I must admit that when I first saw her holding them I thought, "Wow! They must really be sympethetic at the office. They gave her balloons for having her wisdom teeth pulled?!?!?" :) The bus driver didnt comment although some people gave us funny looks. The funniest looks we got were from the people driving up ben ze'v when we were walking home. I can believe that we were walking home together at three o clock in the afternoon on a weekday. (maybe it was three o eight)
We went inside and I was jokingly yelled at for coming home so early. "I thought you said five thirty-six?!?!?" um, I forgot about orita and lori telling me to met her at two fifteen really helped me leave the hospital quickly. Alls well that ends well though. I got the mail. Avi Chai won the jumprope race at school. They had a Yom Sport and he informed me that he beat even the fourth grade! Ezri confirmed the fact and said that he beat everyone except for this fourth grader who did 104 jumps and Avi only did 100, but when Avi got to 100 he stopped and said, "ok, I finished now!" The fourth grader apparently couldnt jump so much more and was pooped when he sat down. I opened the card that Grandpa Jordan had sent me. I read Oras letter even though it wasnt a birthday letter (but it got here when the other card got here, so I put them away together) and then thanked everyone on facebook for the birthday wishes. I was such a good girl.
We made and ate supper. It was really good and there were no leftovers! It was cool. Then Ima and Lori left to go to a womans health evening at the shul. I came a little later. It was so nice outside that I felt good just leaving the house and walking to the shul rather than sitting inside with the airconditioning. Health Evening was a lot of laughs and it was rather interesting. I think that if you wanted to, you could really have gotten a lot out of it. The main point was though (as us Polly people summarized when we got home) that you can eat whatever you want when you are hungry if you eat enough to satisfy you not to make you bloated. It also must be balanced with some physical activity.
The Girls had a party and ate my birthday volcano cake. It was very cool Brenda. We also played with the birthday crayon candles, opened my presents, and had a lot of fun.
I went to sleep way to late. It was 2:15 am, after I had written the first part of this post and so I woke up late. 10:15. I never feel compelled to get up when I'm at home on a day that I work an erev. I know that I have work later and I have to leave latest at one fifteen, so I'm very lazy and sometimes get up at 11:30. speaking of which, its 11:30 right now, so I'm going to go and see what other exciting adventures wait in store for me...
Happy Birthday to me!
